Health Equity Dimensions

Advancing Health Equity

Health equity is at the heart of all D4H work. Within the programmatic areas of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics, Data Impact, and Cancer Registries, GGP projects are encouraged to consider the equity dimensions of their proposed project activities. As of March 2025, 45 GGP-supported projects chose to focus on the collection and/or use of data to identify, analyze, and bridge disparities in health.

Gender Equity in Liberia

In Liberia, data on sexual and reproductive health, including abortion, face gaps in quality and completeness, leading to distrust among data users. This project conducted a data quality assessment, revealing a high degree of under reporting and inconsistencies in maternal death and abortion indicators. In response, an enhanced training curriculum was implemented with the Ministry of Health, equipping 60 personnel with data entry skills to improve data accuracy. By strengthening systematic recording of women's health data, this project advances gender equity in data representation and the potential for evidence-based public health decision-making.

Geographic Equity in Lesotho

Mountainous terrain and limited infrastructure have posed significant challenges to civil registration in Lesotho, leading to geographic inequities in civil registration. To address this, the team developed a mobile application to facilitate timely submission and certification of civil registration forms. As a result, people in remote areas can now easily register births and deaths, improving registration rates and data representation. To further raise awareness, the team organized CRVS Day, where students were registered using mobile devices. Through the team’s commitment to geographic equity, they have helped overcome long-standing registration barriers, ensuring greater efficiency, accessibility, and representation.
